A recent Gallup study of nearly 7,500 full-time employees found that 23 percent reported feeling burned out at work very often or always, while an additional 44 percent reported feeling burned out sometimes. Job burnout ammounts for an estimated $125 billion to $190 billion in health-care spending each year and has been attributed to type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, gastrointestinal issues, high cholesterol and even death for those under the age of 45. Unfair treatment at work, unreasonable deadlines, unmanageable workload, lack of support from managers and the added stress from having to respond to emails and texts during off hours are primary drivers of job burnout. Stress levels seem to be high in India compared to other countries, both developed and emerging, says a survey conducted by Cigna TTK Health Insurance.  About 89% of the population in India say they are suffering from stress compared to the global average of 86%. Work and finances are the key reasons people attribute their stress to. Many people are suffering from hyper-tension, frustration and even heart attacks due to severe politics in corporate organisations.  Most of the employees are preferring to start their own ventures and even ready to struggle in place of a well paid job.

In past 5 years I must have interacted with 10000 professionals directly or indirectly either through my training, consulting, motivational talks, MDP's and coaching and all of them are really struggling to hold on to the ground.

The side effects of this politics  at workplace creates the following
  • Mediocracy among employees
  • Poor work life balance
  • Lack of fellow feeling and camaraderie
  • Failure to create bench marks and new standards
  • Poor productivty
  • Poor smile on the face of employees
  • High level of group dynamics
  • Lack of unity and team work among employees
  • Boss will adopt divide and rule formula
  • Organisations will become giant but not sustainable like Titanic
  • Severe leg pulling between employees
  • Frequent Blame game among teams
  • High level of financial irregularity
  • Leaders will not create leaders rather they will knowing create more timid followers
  • Fear and insecurity among employees
  • Path towards high level of attrition or acute politics and even criminal activity.
  • Good employees will start availing regular leaves and not feel like coming to the workplace.
and many more.

In this article, I will give you 10 mantras of managing your professional career amidst chaos and severe politics.

1. Focus on your goal and not on others
If you are focused on your goal and you know exactly why you go to the workplace everyday then you will be never severly affected by politics. Treat yourself as an entrepreneur and not an employee who is either working for cheque to cheque or 9 am to 5pm.
2. Listen more and talk less
Please avoid too much of talk, arguments and debates at your workplace to stay happy and peaceful. As in an organisation all the employees are adults so they will always try to prove their point through their intellect and arguments. In the process  the environment might turn into rivalry. If anyone do not know how to handle these situations then surely he / she will be depressed. So it is always advisable to listen everyone and just relax.
3. Don't give your opinion freely
Don't share your opinion freely with anyone inside the organisation. As this might lead to communicate your stand to others. Those people who is either there in the organisation since a long time or people who are politicians in the organisation might use this as a weapon to share this with the boss and top management with masala and flavour. For Gods sake never ever try to give your opinion to your boss. It might either hurt his emotion or put him in awkward situation as he will come to know about his ignorance for the subject.
4. Stay away from negativity and back door talks or discussions
Simply avoid negative colleagues at the workplace. Warning Stay away from them. They will not only create problems for themselves but for you as well. Never ever engage yourself in any kind of negative discussions about any colleague, boss or personal matters. This has ruined many life and careers.
5. Treat your current company or job as a step and not the final destination

The moment your will treat your current job or company as your destination you will loose focus on your personal and professional development and will lead you to create politics inside the organisation for your own survival and growth at the cost of others.
6. Keep the leaning attitude and focus on consolidating your own core competence.

Always learn new things and acquire competencies. As this is a VUCA world and things are changing very fast so as an employee you need to change with the times.

9. Compliment and collaborate with colleagues

Always compliment your colleagues and boss. Regular compliments and respecting others will bring peace and growth in your life . Rather than competing your colleagues try to collaborate. This will also help you to fight politics inside the organisation.

10. Help others to realise their dreams and happiness.

Try to help others to realise their dreams . Ensure through your behaviour people should be hurt. This will lead to win win situation.
